Founded on exclusively licensed intellectual property developed at Cleveland Clinic, Juventas is developing a pipeline of regenerative medicine therapies. Research from several laboratories has uncovered a naturally occurring but inefficient stem cell based repair process that is activated in all mammals after tissue injury. Our Founder, Marc Penn, M.D. Ph.D., is responsible for having identified several factors involved in the repair process, including SDF-1. Delivery of SDF-1 to damaged organs has been shown to preserve function through prevention of cell death and recruitment of stem cells that result in revascularization of the tissue. Several studies have demonstrated therapeutic potential for treatment of chronic heart failure, acute myocardial infarctions, angina, peripheral artery disease, wound healing, and stroke. In addition to SDF-1, Juventas has rights to a pipeline of factors, such as MCP-3, that may be exploited across a spectrum of disease indications.
